As the school year comes to an end, leaving primary school is a significant and often emotional milestone. We reckon that singing is the very best way to get together and celebrate the journey, reflect on happy memories and look ahead to new beginnings. So, to help you mark this important time, we’ve put together a selection of some of our top-notch leavers' songs (all of which can be accessed through Sparkyard).

1. Leavers' Song

This is one of our most popular leavers' songs, written especially for Year 6 children as they leave primary school. It's a song of affirmation and celebration to mark the end of one phase, and to welcome in a new beginning. It also comes with a BSL signing video.

2. So Long, Farewell, Cheerio!

This song is a fun twist on one of the most famous ‘goodbye songs’ of all time. So Long, Farewell, Cheerio! is a wonderfully sweet song, perfect for a light-hearted leavers’ assembly. Although this is a goodbye song, it is cheerful and full of hope for meeting again, so should be sung with a smile!

3. Start The Celebrations

While the end of the school year is often a time for farewells and reflection, it is also one filled with excitement for the summer that lies ahead. Full of our favourite summery things, this upbeat song sets the tone for the whole season. It also links to a range of different assemblies in Sparkyard that can be used throughout the summer term.

4. Change And Grow

A moving ballad anthem with a big heart and a strongly positive theme – both in the lyrics and the melody. Very popular in schools to help us move forward, reminding us that everything changes and grows but there is joy and hope in the journey. It comes with a BSL signing video, too.

5. Today We Celebrate

Today We Celebrate may require a few tissues on hand with its touching lyrics and lovely melody! In two parts, with scope for solos or small groups, this poignant song is perfect for a school choir to sing in a leavers’ concert. As the two-part section of the song is playable on recorder, flute or violin, any instrumentalists in the class could choose a part and play along during this section.

6. Moving On

The perfect song to celebrate those rites of passage when children move from one class or school to another. It helps bring a positive and uplifting feel to these times of change that can often be emotional for many children.
