Top 10 Songs For Autumn

The autumn term is an exciting time for schools. There are new classes to meet, harvest assemblies to prepare, new topics to explore – and Sparkyard can help with all of those! With over 1000 songs to discover, it can be exciting, if a little overwhelming, deciding where to start. But who better to help you find some firm favourites and discover some hidden gems, than other teachers? Here are the top 10 songs played in Sparkyard during the autumn term 2022. We hope they’ll give you lots of inspiration for your class this year!

Harvest Samba – Mark & Helen Johnson

Harvest Samba is not only one of the most sung songs in the autumn term, it’s one of our most sung songs EVER!

This song is a Latin-style musical feast, with great descriptions and really fun rhymes – it’s guaranteed to be very popular with the whole school. Opportunity for great two-part singing is given towards the end of the song.

Big Red Combine Harvester – Niki Davies

Big Red Combine Harvester’s simple lyrics and catchy tune are perfect for younger voices. There’s plenty of scope for including actions throughout the song and it’s guaranteed to get everyone joining in!

Conkers! – Mark & Helen Johnson

A fun song which has become a firm favourite with children of all ages everywhere. The joy of conker-collecting is recaptured in a crisp and bouncy style, with a melody that you’ll find yourself singing along to long after the conker season is over.

Harvest Time Is Here Again – Matthew Crossey

Suitable for any harvest celebration, this song takes you from planting the seeds to bringing the harvest in and thanking God for it. There is scope for adding some simple or more complicated clapping rhythms.

Harvest Hoedown – Lin Marsh

Yee-hah! It’s time for a harvest hoedown, so grab your partners and sing and dance your way through this lively little song.

Harvest Handclap – Mark, Helen & Naomi Johnson

A fabulously fun, celebratory call-and-response-style song for the whole school. Complete with optional harmony and, of course, handclaps!

So far, our top 10 has included only harvest songs, but the autumn term is also a time for introducing new routines and establishing new relationships in the classroom. Our next two songs are PERFECT to help with that:

Coordination Funk – Antony Copus

Designed to wake up your body and get your brain in gear, this is a fabulous warm-up for general alertness and it’s great fun to sing!

Tidy Up! – Mark & Helen Johnson

A great song to use at the end of ‘free-play’ time or at the end of the day. Try combining the tidying with some sorting games: colour, shape, size, material, etc.

Bean Harvest – Mary Green & Julie Stanley

A fantastic song for getting rid of lots of energy! The children will love performing this with all the actions or using it for music and movement.

One, Two, Three Little Acorns – Niki Davies

A useful little song to help with counting, adding and subtracting activities as well as science work on trees and animals.

All of these songs, plus loads more, are available in Sparkyard as part of a subscription or a free 30-day trial. Why not give them a go in your classroom or assembly hall?
